A little fun fact about me: I have a fear of public speaking! When I think of public speaking, I start to get short of breath, I feel like I’m going to throw up, and have a full on anxiety attack. People are always so surprised when I tell them that I have this fear because of how outgoing I am on social media. The truth is, it is so much easier to be out going behind a computer than infront of a group of people. On November 12, 2016 I overcame my biggest fear! I spoke on an Open Panel at FIDM’s Open House infront of 300-400 prospective students. I was on the 10:30am panel, so before I went on, I drank wine out of a coffee cup! I was freaking out!!! Even when they called my name to come out, I was laying on the floor, trying to catch my breath! The other panelists had to pick me up off the floor! I finally made it out and as soon as the first question was asked, I started to loosen up a little. I thought, I am here to share my story to inspire other people. That gave me the confidence to not run off the stage! ahahah! I also didn’t want to give in to my fears because if one day my son Zeyd has a fear of anything, I can honestly tell him that there is nothing he can’t do because of fear. I am so grateful to FIDM for so many reasons; receiving a great education from industry professionals, giving me the necessary skills to start my own brand, and the most important of all, meeting my husband Michael! We had our first kiss on the steps infront of FIDM! ahaha Watch the full FIDM Open Panel Here to hear my story along with other inspiring FIDM Alumni. And always remember, never let fear get in the way of something you want to do!
