This is by far one of the coolest trends ever. We are absolutely obsessed with this look. Fashion is in the midst of a major 90’s resurgence and it looks like it might even be here to stay for a while. No complaining here! Glitter used to be considered mildly trashy and a little tacky but it’s really come around again in a more high fashion way. It’s no longer just for Hard Candy makeup and it’s not just sold at Claire’s anymore. Glitter has taken on a whole new personality and we are so down with the chic glitter movement.
We first saw this trend appear on the Myer SS11/12 runway courtesy of L’Oreal Professionnel and we were totally impressed. Sometimes it can take a while for a particular hair trend to reach the streets once it hits the runway, which is why we had not seen much of it again until 2014. With the resurgence of sequins and glittery fabrics, we can see how the glitter hair trend has certainly followed.
Some attribute the social media craze to a Scottish salon called BLOW who featured this photo by Hair Stylist Fallon Carberry. This photo went viral and soon the glitter craze was dominating social media.
We also saw Stylist Daniel Moon do this in a shoot with Nasty Gal back in 2013. He also has his own website dedicated to selling his hair glitter products.
We’ve also seen Miley Cyrus rocking it.
Christopher Shannon‘s Spring/Summer 2014 collection also celebrated the late-90s club scene of Liverpool and featured male models with glitter filled hair. It was like a grungy, dirty, yet high fashion, up-scale rave look. It’s amazing to see men trying this out as well.
Dying for the glitter beard!
